McMinnville resident and Rutherford County native James W. Crouch, 82, passed away unexpectedly Jan. 14 at River Park Hospital.
A retired employee of Y&R Advertising and a member of Arlington Church of Christ, he served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II where he was decorated during his three years service in Europe.
The son of the late William M. and Bertha Bain Crouch, he was preceded in death by son, James W. Crouch Jr.; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Hiram Stubblefield; and son-in-law, Ed Kleinhample.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Virginia Crouch; son, Melvin Crouch of McMinnville; daughters and sons-in-law, Donna L. and Tom Sanders of St. Petersburg, Fla., Virginia and Michael F. Mahoney of Holiday, Fla., and Martha K. Kleinhample of Land-O-Lakes, Fla.; two granddaughters, two great-grandsons; sisters and brother-in-law, Mildred Potter of Chattanooga, Irene and Charlie Stembridge of McMinnville.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at High’s Chapel with Odell Powell and Charles Pearson officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. View Cemetery with military graveside rites administered by VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173.

Mollie Ann Copenhaver Cope, 49
McMinnville resident and Warren County native Mollie Ann Copenhaver Cope, 49, died Jan. 13 at River Park Hospital after a three-week illness.
A retail clerk and a member of Morrison First Baptist Church, she was the daughter of Hozene McCormick Copenhaver of Rock Island and the late Frank Copenhaver.
She is survived by her husband, James Cope; sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Ray McCay of O’Fallon, Mo.; nephews, Brent and Ryan McCay; stepson and daughter-in-law, Merill and Jennifer Cope of McMinnville; and stepson, Samual Jeffery Cope of McMinnville.
Services were held Thursday at Love-Cantrell & Cope Funeral Home Chapel with Nathan Wilkerson officiating. Burial followed at Mt. Vernon Cemetery.

James Richard Bates, 70
McMinnville resident and DeKalb County native James Richard Bates, 70, died Jan. 15 at his home after an extended illness.
An employee of Carrier for 25 years, he was the son Otis and Roberta Barks Bates; and was preceded in death by great-granddaughter, Katelynn Allie Fults; and brothers, Joe and J.E. Bates.
He is survived by his wife, Julie Marie Watts Bates; sons and daughters-in-law, James W. and Vickie Bates of McMinnville, Harold and Sharon Bates of Morrison, Chris and Jessica Bates of Woodbury; daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Billy Fults, Fay and Henry Sanders, all of McMinnville; 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one step-granddaughter.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at High’s Chapel with Jason Nunley officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. View Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. until time of service Sunday at High’s.

Michael E. Cummings, 40
Spencer resident and Van Buren County native Michael E. Cummings, 40, died unexpectedly Jan. 11 in White County.
A brick layer and a member of the Church of Christ, he was the son of Edward Cummings of Spencer and the late Carolyn Bouldin Hitchcock.
He is survived by daughter, Donna Cummings of McMinnville; brother, Terry Lynn Cummings of Spencer; and sister, Heather Hitchcock of McMinnville.
Services were held Tuesday at Shockley Cemetery.

Velma Stoner Jaco, 87
Smithville resident Velma Stoner Jaco, 87, died Jan. 14 at Baptist DeKalb Hospital.
A homemaker and a member of the Methodist Church, she was the daughter of the late Grover Cleveland and Susan Parilee Young Stoner, and was preceded in death by her husband, Buford Jaco.
She is survived by daughters, Joanna Pennington, Betty Michaels, Helen Smoot, and Phyllis Norrod, all of Smithville; son, Charles Jaco of McMinnville; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Jaco of Morrison; several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home in Smithville with Bransford England and Eddie Cantrell officiating. Burial will follow at New Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. until time of service Saturday at Love-Cantrell of Smithville.

Cloisene Gentry Lawson, 83
McMinnville resident and Jackson County native Cloisene Gentry Lawson, 83, died Jan. 13 at River Park Hospital after a brief illness.
A housekeeper with Tennessee Technological University and a member of the Church of Christ, she was the daughter of George and Anna Hix Gentry and was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Lawson in 1980.
She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Max Gentry of McMinnville; grandchildren, Chris and Candace Gentry of Rock Island, Cindy and Brian Fowler of McMinnville; great-grandchildren, Brittany, Micha and Savannah Gentry, Kyle and Haley Fowler; brother, Henry D. Gentry of California; special caregiver, Cindy Tilton of McMinnville; and special friends, Anna Mae Dishman and Irene Porter, both of McMinnville.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at High’s Chapel with Jerry Davenport and Lanny Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Smyrna Cemetery in Putnam County. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of service today at High’s.

Nova June Ware McMahan Myers, 71
McMinnville resident and Warren County native Nova June Ware McMahan Myers, 71, died Jan. 10 at her home after a lingering illness.
A homemaker and a member of Forest Park Baptist Church, she was the daughter of the late Allen Bryan and Cleo Curtis Ware; and was preceded in death by sisters, Edith Ware, Edna Wanamaker and Fay Wallace; brother, Bill Ware; and her first husband, Jack McMahan.
She is survived by her husband, James Willard Myers; daughter and son-in-law, Denise McMahan Marsh Bowdoin and Greg Bowdoin of McMinnville; stepdaughter and spouse, Pam and Holbert Taylor McMinnville; granddaughter, Jackee Marsh of McMinnville; step-grandchildren and spouses, Casey and Heather Williamson, Crystal Williamson, Connie and Bryan Austin, and Brittany Bowdoin of McMinnville; great-grandson, Jaythan Rylee Marsh of McMinnville; step-great-granddaughter, Chole Williamson; twin brother and spouse, Ova Gene and Frankie Ware of Pontiac, Mich.; brothers and spouses, Joe and Jean Ware, Leon and Arlene Ware, James and Fran Ware, and Paul Ware, all of McMinnville; sisters, Betty Ware of McMinnville and Mary Jane Skierkowski of Murfreesboro; sister-in-law, Maxine Ware of Nashville; six nephews, seven nieces, several great-nieces and nephews; special family members, Jessie Mullican, Ernest and Pat Brewington, Clarence, Louise, Rayburn, Mike and Robin Turner, Sherry and Shane Moore, Tina and Matt Walker.
