Wildcats top Tigers

Dibrell’s fifth- and sixth-grade boys got off to a strong start on their way to their second lopsided victory of the week Tuesday night.

Out-scoring their guests from Irving College 12-3 in the first quarter, the Wildcats rolled through the remaining three periods on their way to a 37-17 victory over the Tigers.

Cody Bond led the way with 14 points for the Wildcats, and scored four of their 12 first-quarter points while the defense held the Tigers to just one field goal.

The second quarter saw more tenacious Wildcat defense, as Irving College again managed one field goal and a free throw. Dibrell posted six points in the period to take an 18-6 advantage into intermission.

After the halftime break, the Wildcats posted nine points to the Tigers’ three to go up 27-9, and although they only out-scored their guests 10-8 in the final quarter, Dibrell’s early lead was more than enough to seal the win.

In addition to Bond’s 14, the Wildcats got six points from James Mitchell, while Lou Christian added five. Dylan Blair and Justin Yott had four each, while Alex Welcome and Landy Curtis each scored two.

Irving College was led by Grant Hoover and Miguel Sanchez, who netted five points apiece. Dustin Curtiss, Lucas Felton and Zack Rubley had two each, while Justin McGregor had one.
