Youth gain first-hand clothing knowledge

A Fashion Frenzy captured the interest of 50 4-H members from across the Cumberland District after they converged on Tennessee Tech University for a three-day clothing camp. There were 13 Warren County youth in attendance accompanied by Extension agent and camp director Jamie Harris.

The event, designed for sixth, seventh and eighth-grade 4-H members, provided them an opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge in the areas of fashion and clothing construction.

While at camp, 4-H’ers participated in a Mall Mania session at the local shopping mall. Area merchants were hosts for workshops on merchandising, price comparison and quality versus price.

Back on campus, 4-H members rotated through a variety of sessions ranging from modeling to advertising. They also participated in hands-on sessions by making memory boards, rag-tie flip flops, homemade lotion and lip gloss.

The service learning project consisted of constructing fabric books and teddy bears that were donated to military families in the area.

A fashion show, designed by camp attendees focusing on clothing, was the final project for the week and the camp finale.

Warren countians selected to attend were Callie Durham, Jac Smartt, Chanae McClaughlin, Maddie Stein, Kayla Argo, Samantha Brown, Jul? Cook, Amber Hennessee, Mari-Katherine Webb, Erika Betschart, Andrea Carden, Kayla Argo and Kelly Thompson.
