After just making the cut in the District 7-AAA tournament last week, the Warren County High School boys golf team headed into Tuesday’s Region 4-AAA tournament at Henry Horton Sate Colf course with high hopes of advancement.

But the unforgiving long layout of the golf course proved to be a challenge as the Pioneers finished 14 shots off the lead carding a team effort of 326 on the day.

Oakland and Lawrence County finished with team scores of 312, with Oakland taking the region crown in a one-hole playoff. Tullahoma had a 316 and Cookeville posted a 317.

Alex Self turned in a solid region performance for the Pioneers, posting a round of 75. Self made the turn with a 39 on the scorecard, but shaved three strokes off the back nine for his respectful 75.

Cody Durham carded a 78 as he made the turn with a 41 on his card and finished strong on the back nine with a 1-over 37. Greg Mortenson and Cody Pryor each posted an 88 on the day, while Andrew Brock turned in a round of 89.

Darrin Wall of Lawrence County and Jared Dunn of Cookeville turned in the low rounds of the day, each carding a 71. District 7’s individual low scorer — Philip Pettitt of Oakland — finished the day one off the pace with a 72.

Wall, Dunn, Lawrence County’s Brett Mansfield and Riverdale’s Jason Millard will compete as individuals and Oakland will send its team to the state tourney.
