Lookout for scarecrows along Civic Center trail

If you walk on the Civic Center’s walking trail, lookout. It’s Scare Me Scarecrow time.

Do not be afraid. Instead, grab your family and some craft supplies and make a scarecrow too.

Once again McMinnville Parks and Recreation will be sponsoring the Scare Me Scarecrow contest. The contest is open to individual or groups of up to five students who are currently enrolled in fourth through sixth grade and who reside in Warren County. There is also an open division which includes groups and families.

All entries must be brought to the Civic Center by a representative of the group no later than 5 p.m. Oct. 16. Entries must include an index card with names and a phone number, or school name and teacher, so the winners can be notified.

Scarecrows will be displayed around the walking trail for everyone to enjoy. Judging will be based on originality and creativity. Winners will be notified by Friday, Oct. 24. All scarecrows will remain on the walking trail through Halloween.

Prizes will be awarded in each category with an overall grand prize winner. Prizes will include free passes to Gilley Pool, one-week passes to the Civic Center, and the grand prize will be a surprise.

Official rules can be picked up at the Civic Center.
