Blevins given 180 days for botched robbery
A botched robbery attempt will cost a local man 180 days behind bars.
The defendant, Ronald Blevins Jr., entered a guilty plea before Circuit Court Judge Bart Stanley last week to the charge of attempted aggravated robbery. He was directed to serve 180 days of a six-year sentence, with the balance of his term to be spent under supervised probation.
The incident which led to his jail time happened over two years ago in March of 2001 when Blevins entered often-robbed Pit Stop North, located on Chancery Street across from Bobby Ray Elementary, and placed a knife to the clerk’s throat and demanded the store’s money. However, Blevins was interrupted when a customer walked in. At that point, Blevins bolted from the store, without any money.
He was captured minutes later by police who tracked him from the store and found him running away from the scene on streets near the scene of the crime. Blevins still had the knife in his hand when he was found by police. He surrendered when officers drew their weapons.
Blevins was sentenced as a Range-Two offender because of his prior record. The sentencing means he must complete at least 35 percent of his sentence before chance of parole.
