Mayor denies traffic light allegations
Morrison’s mayor says he has no idea where allegations came from that the county pays bills for the town’s traffic lights.
“I don’t know where they got that from,” Mayor Harris Jacobs said in response to a letter written by City Attorney James Dempster that asks the county to pay for traffic lights located on all public right of ways in Warren County.
The letter, sent to County Executive Kenneth Rogers, threatens legal action with regard to what McMinnville officials claim are unfair practices regarding garbage disposal, but also contains one paragraph alleging that “there is discrimination between the city of McMinnville and the town of Morrison as we are informed that the county is paying for the electric bill and maintenance for the operation of the traffic lights.”
Jacobs said Tuesday he just finished signing off on a check for the lights last week.
“Of course anybody, anywhere else wants to jump on Morrison, but I wrote a check for $6,000 or $7,000 worth of bulbs for traffic lights last Thursday or Friday,” he said, firmly denying the allegations.
City Administrator Herb Llewellyn said Tuesday the city was told the county paid for it and said he would double check.
