Bob Reed holds book-signing

Bob Reed, retired radio announcer, will be present for a second book-signing scheduled Dec. 3 beginning at 11 a.m. at the Senior Center on Morrison Street. His first book-signing took place recently at Monty Wanamaker’s Arts and Antique Emporium.

The book entitled, “Southern Gospel Music Rings In the Nursery Capital of the World – Warren County, Tennessee,” presents a historical review of people, places, events and genealogical names from the area. For instance, early in the history of the Park Theater, owner Cowan Oldham presented live entertainment from the stage including Little Jimmy Dickens and Brenda Lee. Gene Webb played the organ on a regular basis.

Reed has featured numerous notable individuals from Warren County’s past with photos and brief stories. Good News, a local musical group formed in 1975 that includes the likes of Reed, Dewey Rigsby, Jimmy Jones, Willie Nunley and Jeff Romans, among others, can be found on page 80.

The book has been dedicated to the memory of Dewey J. Rigsby, Eck Denton, Mitchell W. Wright, Willie B. Nunley, Sue Stewart, Edith Dybdal, Kenny Henson, H.G. Deaton and Glenn Payne.

Reed’s parents brought the family to McMinnville in 1935 and he attended City Grammar School and Central High School. He became interested in radio broadcasting while serving in the military.
