WCMS falls to Jackets
Thursday the Warren County Middle School had a big mountain to climb as they went up against the Grundy County High School volleyball team. WCMS played the junior varsity team from Grundy County in two close games, but falling short 15-7 in the first game and 17-15 in the second.
The middle school Lady Pioneers struggled throughout the first game, as the high school team from Grundy opened up a seven-point lead. The Lady Pioneers put several strong rallies together as they were down 10-3 and fought their way back to give Grundy County High School all it wanted, but fell short as the older team picked up the win.
In the second game WCMS played very aggressively, and took a 8-4 lead over the Lady Jackets. Mary Kate Fisher had two big kills midway through the game which prompted Grundy County to put a senior varsity player in the game.
With the varsity player in the game WCMS continued to play well, with strong serving from Brittany Frazier and good backcourt play from Rachel Walker. The Lady Pioneers tied the game at 15-15, but the high school players from Grundy would take advantage of their size advantage to win the match.
“We played a good match tonight and were winning the second game before Grundy put in one of their varsity players, said coach Farrah Griffith. “I thought that was a real low thing to do but you have to move on and the girls kept pressure on Grundy County all night.
“We are getting better in every game and these kids have worked very hard and are learning the game of volleyball. I very proud of the way they hung in there.”
