Ringside Review: WWE cashes in on ‘Summerslam’
“Summerslam” had an attendance of 14,797 at the Nassau Coliseum last Sunday. The gross was $863,625, a record at that arena for the WWE.
The pay-per-view brought in $1,820,000 more. Not a bad three hours for Vince and the gang.
The night got off to a good start with the Kurt Angle vs. Rey Mysterio match. However, the action was not as good in the Edge and Eddie Guerrero match.
The worse match of the night was Ric Flair vs. Chris Jericho. Flair kept the action slow most of the time. Booker T was great, but didn’t get a lot of help to get his tag-team match over.
The best match of the night was Shawn Michaels vs. Triple H. The crowd was really into their match, and the two superstars put on a great show.
It may have been a first for The Rock, even though he was the face in his match with Brock Lesnar, the crowd was around 2/3 for Brock. It was really bad after the match when he tried to do the “Finally, The Rock has come back…” line. He tried three times and each time the crowd booed him.
• To the man who called to tell me how wrong I was about Kane’s return, I just missed it by one day!
Did Kane look different to you? He does to me! Will Kane get the push he deserves? I hope so.
He held the WWF title in June of 1998, but has been a mid-carder most of his career. Brock Lesnar vs. Kane sounds good to me.
• Don’t look for The Rock much in the next six months, he has movie obligations that he has to take care of. When he does come back, he will be a heel.
• Rumors of Lex Luger coming to the WWE do not appear to be legitimate.
The last we heard was that he would do some dates for Andrew McManus’ WWA in late August, but they were canceled.
• Who are the most downloaded female wrestlers? Here are the top 10, as listed by prowrestling.com: 10. Francine, 9. Kim Page, 8. Stephanie McMahon, 7. Torrie Wilson, 6. Terri Runnels, 5. Stacy Keibler, 4. Tammy Sytch (Sunny), 3. Rena Mero, 2. Lita, and 1. Trish Stratus.
There was no list of the men, but they did say The Rock was No. 1.
