Perron bound for attempted murder

PERRON
The man who shot at his wife and then opened fire on deputies last month has been bound over to the grand jury.

The defendant, Brett Perron, 34, was bound over to the grand jury by General Sessions Judge Larry Ross following a preliminary hearing Tuesday. Perron was bound on one count of attempted first-degree murder and one count of aggravated assault. He also had his probation for an earlier unrelated offense violated and must serve the balance of his sentence.

His bond, however, which was originally a half-million dollars, was reduced to $150,000. He had originally been charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder but one of the counts was reduced to aggravated assault during the hearing Tuesday.

Perron faces the charges after shooting through his wife’s windshield with a .22 caliber rifle while she was trying to leave their Beersheba Highway residence. Perron then fired on deputies who responded to the domestic call, holding a three-hour standoff with lawmen. Perron was eventually convinced to throw out his weapon and step onto the front porch. However, he was holding a machete to himself, threatening suicide when he walked onto the front porch. Deputies were able to disarm him by firing a flashbang and then having SWAT members move in to subdue him.

He remains held at Warren County Jail awaiting grand jury action.
