Girls Prep Softball League: Cumberland Bank downs Elkins, 5-1

Cumberland Bank used a balanced attack at the plate to score a 5-1 win over Elkins Realty in Girls Prep League Fast Pitch softball action on May 18.

For Cumberland Bank, Beth Solomon, Ashley Nunley and Airrah Mathney collected one hit each.

McCall Cooper doubled, Jessica Miller, Elizabeth Kennamer and Sarah Cooper had one hit each for Elkins.

Leanne Smith was the winning pitcher and Kennamer took the loss for Elkins.

• Womack Printing topped Dr. Stanley Martin 16-13. Casi Rogers went 2-for-2 with an inside-the-park home run and April Burkett went 2-for-3 on the day for Womack Printing.

For Dr. Martin, Kristen Fann, Courtney Hobbs, Patte Evans and Holly Walker singled. Ashley McBee picked up the win with seven strikeouts.

• Cumberland Bank defeated Womack Printing 12-7, giving Womack its only loss thus far this season. Shannon Sain went 2-for-3 for Cumberland, and Kristen Thomason doubled for Womack. Leanne Smith picked up the win with five strikeouts and Ashley McBee took the loss.

• Elkins Realty defeated Dr. Martin 15-13. Whitney Hayes, Macall Cooper and Elizabeth Kennamer each singled as the team picked up 10 walks in the game for Elkins. Holly Walker, Kristin Fann and Shay Pleasant each singled for Dr. Martin.

• In games played Tuesday May 21, Elkins Realty defeated Dr. Martin 18-7. Elkins scored 12 runs in the top of the first, sending 15 batters to the plate. Martin gave up four walks and six errors in the first. Martin scored five runs in the first on three errors and two walks and one hit.

• Womack Printing defeated Cumberland Bank 10-9. Ashley McBee and April Burkett went 2-for-3 for Womack. Laurie Hills was 2-for-3 for Cumberland Bank.

Womack Printing was down 8-5 going into the bottom of the fourth, but scored five runs and held Cumberland Bank to one run in the top of the fifth for the win.
