Discovery Fair the place for ideas
Bobby Ray Elementary held its Discovery Fair Thursday with approximately one-fourth of the school’s 400 students participating in the event which is the school’s version of a science fair.
“We decided not to have judging this year,” said Discovery Fair coordinator Angie Roland. “Instead every student who participated will get a certificate for participating with their picture on it.”
The criteria for the projects were set up similarly to the national competition according to Roland. All the projects had to relate to some area of science, and the students had to follow the scientific method much like the traditional science fair.
“They had to have a title, their purpose, their hypothesis, their procedures and then a summary. So they followed the same format that the people who enter the national competition follow,” said Roland.
Though not a science fair in the traditional sense, the event provided an alternative learning experience for all Bobby Ray students who participated.
