Future farmers capture awards
Warren County was well represented at the annual Middle Tennessee FFA Awards Banquet held last week at MTSU as five members of the local chapter captured a bevy of awards.
Bringing home Middle Tennessee first-place honors in the proficiency category of beef production was Dale Sneed, the 19-year-old son of David and Dianne Sneed of the Lucky community.
Danielle Conner, the 17-year-old daughter of Chuck and Sharon Conner of Centertown, won first-place honors in the diversified livestock category.
First place in forestry production went to 18-year-old Jacob Smith, the son of Darl and Renee Smith of Centertown.
Wildlife production and recreation category first-place honors went to Brandon Savage, the son of Tommy and Carla Savage of Rock Island.
All winners received a plaque and a cash award. By capturing first place, they have each become state finalists in their respective categories.
Savage was also named as the Middle Tennessee Star in Agribusiness. Helping him earn this honor was his work in propagating 60,000 cherry trees, the breeding of cocker spaniels and managing over 3,500 acres for quality deer and turkey production.
Joining Savage as a Middle Tennessee Star, in the recently created category of agricultural placement, was Josh Morton, the son of the late Jeff Morton and Freda and Harold Austin of McMinnville. Morton was awarded this honor based on his work in all phases of his family’s nursery business.
Savage and Morton also become state finalists in their categories. State winners will be announced at the FFA state convention to be held early next month in Gatlinburg.
