Gordonsville Tigers top Broncos 13-5
Boyd’s baseball team took on the Gordonsville Tigers Thursday at the McMinnville Civic Center Complex, falling 13-5.
Sam Medley took the mound for the Broncos and had three strikeouts and five walks while giving up 12 hits.
Jay Medley led off the game with a base hit to center field and then scored when Dillion Childers slapped a single to left to give Boyd an early 1-0 lead. The Tigers put one man on in their half of the inning from a walk and then got back-to-back hits to go up 2-1.
Gordonsville added four runs off three hits and two errors in the second to expand its lead to 6-1. The Broncos struggled over the next two innings, and only put one man on base with a walk.
In the fourth Boyd put one on then got a single from Casey Hertwig to make it a 6-2 ballgame, but the defense couldn’t shut down the Tigers and in the top of the fifth Gordonsville added another five runs off of three hits and three errors to break the game open.
In the bottom of the fifth Boyd put together three hits and a couple of walks to add three runs to the board and cut their deficit to 11-5, but the Tigers once again answered and produced two more hits to close out the game 13-5.
For the Broncos, Hertwig was 2-for-3, while Childers and John Watson were1-for-3. Jay Medley and Ryan Hill each went 1-for-2.
Boyd travels to face Trousdale County Monday.
