Candidates should back off at community gatherings

I recently attended the chili supper held at Eastside School for Boy Scout Troop 499. I was quite pleased with the way the scouts were involved in helping the staff and everyone else.

I was, however, a little upset with the fact it seemed this was more of a “meet and greet” for the upcoming elections. I was under the impression this was solely for the Boy Scout troop.

I understand the fact of wanting to “shake hands and kiss babies” so to speak, but I feel it was the wrong time and place. This was supposed to be a chance for the troop to raise money for various things, but it seemed more like a political convention.

My family and I arrived, proceeded through the lunch line to obtain our chili, and found a seat in the cafeteria. Before I could even begin to eat, a certain someone running for Register of Deeds approached me. After that, I started noticing how many hopeful candidates were there and how much campaigning was taking place.

I immediately felt offended. I do not have a child in the troop, but it upset me they were using this chance to get their name out there.

I should take this chance to say I am a registered voter in Warren County, and I will not be voting for any of the candidates I saw at the supper pushing their names.
