Nashville Symphony slates Beatles tribute

When Classical Mystery Tour, an astonishing Beatles tribute band, takes to TPAC’s Jackson Hall stage Sept. 10 and 11 with The Nashville Symphony, you won’t believe you’re not witnessing the Fab Four themselves. From their classic black suits, haircuts and Sgt. Pepper uniforms to their uncanny sound and performance style on all-time greats like “Hey Jude,” “Yellow Submarine,” “Penny Lane,” “Here Comes the Sun” and others, Classical Mystery Tour captures the Beatles as they haven’t been heard in more than 30 years.

Although the musicians look and sound like the Beatles, the Classical Mystery Tour is more than just a rock concert. The show presents some 20 Beatles tunes sung, played and performed exactly as they were written. Hear “Penny Lane” with a live trumpet section; experience the beauty of “Yesterday” with an acoustic guitar and string quartet; enjoy the rock/classical blend on the heard-edged “I Am the Walrus.”

“We really make an effort to sound exactly like the originals,” explains Jim Owen, who admits that he and the other three are big Beatles fans. “The orchestra score is exact, right down to every note and instrument that was on the original recording.”

“We have some real show-stopping numbers,” Owen adds, “I wish I could actually be in the audience to see and hear this show. The power of the emotion and nostalgic connection back to each of our individual experiences with The Beatles is hard to put into words.”

Tickets are available now for $23 to $70 and can be ordered by calling 615-255-ARTS or visiting www.nashvillesymphony.org.
