Westmoreland whips BCS girls

The Lady Broncos scored single digits in all four periods against Westmoreland Tuesday night, and were plagued by turnovers throughout an 83-30 home loss to the Lady Eagles.

Boyd’s girls opened the game with a zone defense, but the Lady Eagles quickly had the answer as they hit from the paint and behind the arc. Lyndsey King scored four of the Broncos’ six points in the period while the Eagles totaled 17 points in the period.

Things didn’t get much better for Boyd in the second period as eight turnovers resulted in 16 points for Westmoreland. Jennifer Laxton, Amanda Prater and Tenera Jones scored the Lady Broncos’ seven points in the period. The Lady Eagles scored at will, hitting for 25 points in the period to take a 42-13 lead at the half.

Westmoreland opened the third period with 10 unanswered points. Prater answered with back-to-back baskets at the five-minute mark, but the Lady Broncos couldn’t handle the man-to-man defense by the Lady Eagles. Westmoreland added 23 points in the quarter as Boyd managed just eight.

The lack of offense continued for the Lady Broncos in the final period. Prater worked the inside for four points and Jones scored in the paint, but Boyd couldn’t stop the fast-paced offense for Westmoreland as the Eagles picked up the 53-point victory.

For the Lady Broncos, Prater hit for 11, Tabitha King had seven, Jones hit for four, Courtney Hard, Lydia Powell and Mary Reynolds had two points each. Lyndsey King and Jennifer Laxton had one point each. Leading all scorers for Westmoreland was Sarah Jones with 26, while Lydia Hunt had 15 points.
