McMinnville resident and Warren County native Marvin Leon McGee, 79, died Feb. 7 at River Park Hospital after a brief illness.
A retired superintendent of McMinnville Street Department and a member of Shellsford Baptist Church, he served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.
The son of Thurman E. and Nettie Mae Hillis McGee Sr., he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lewis Givens.
He is survived by brother, T.E. McGee of McMinnville; sister, Mildred Johnson of Ft. Oglethorpe, Ga.; nieces and nephews, Tina Mabe of Rock Island, Dennis and Lisa McGee, both of McMinnville, Barry Panter and Myra Chanks, both of Georgia, Larry Panter of Nashville, Ralph Johnson, Darrell Johnson, Rhonda Johnson and Linda Wall, all of Chattanooga; sister-in-law, Estelle McGee of Chattanooga; and brother-in-law, Carl Panter of McMinnville.
Services were held Monday at High’s Chapel with Donald Owens officiating. Burial followed at Mt. View Cemetery.

Cairlean Bess Brady, 58
McMinnville resident and Warren County native Cairlean Bess Brady, 58, died unexpectedly Feb. 8 at St. Thomas Hospital.
A homemaker and a member of the Church of God, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Martha Killian Scott; and was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Angel Bess.
She is survived by companion, Donnie Bess of Altamont; daughters, Cindy Christian of Altamont and Natasha Wanamaker of McMinnville; son, Gregory Bess of Altamont; son and daughter-in-law, Lynn and Wendy Bess of Altamont; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Wilda Bess, H.B. Scott and Isborn Scott, all of McMinnville, Georgia McBride of Cookeville, Livy Scott of Beersheba Springs, Randy Scott of Tracy City, Abidene Scott of Altamont and Price Scott of Chattanooga.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Love-Cantrell & Cope Funeral Home Chapel with Carl Crowe officiating. Burial will follow at Philadelphia Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 8 a.m. until time of service today at Love-Cantrell & Cope.

Iris Novella Bain Adams, 91
Rock Island resident and White County native Iris Novella Bain Adams, 91, died Feb. 8 at Raintree Manor after a short illness.
A homemaker and a member of the Church of God, she was the daughter of Jessie Arch and Minnie Grissom Bain.
She is survived by her husband, Orene Adams; daughters, Deborah Ballew of Bone Cave, Anna Mae Sharp and Jewellene McGowan, both of Rock Island, Lucille Wagner of Lansing, Mich.; sons, Bobby and Bill Adams of Bone Cave, Julius Adams, Ivey Hillis and James H. (Dickie) Hillis, all of McMinnville; 29 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren, and 22 great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Gladys Hash of McMinnville.
Services were held Tuesday at High’s Chapel with Danny Sullivan officiating. Burial followed at Shiloh Cemetery at Mud Creek.

James Wiley Basham, 82
McMinnville resident and Warren County native James Wiley Basham, 82, died unexpectedly Feb. 7 at Clear Lake Medical Center in Webster, Texas.
A retired employee of the Budd Company and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he was the son of the late Marshall and Clara Duke Basham. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Odie Gunter Basham.
He is survived by his wife, Lula Martin Basham of Willoughby, Ohio; sons, James Basham of Waldoboro, Maine, and Barney Basham of Perkasie, Pa.; five grandchildren, Kim Scott, Kelly, Tina, Jamie and Phillip Basham; and great-grandchild, Hannah Wade of Maine.
Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday at High’s Chapel with Kenny McNatt officiating. Burial will follow at Gunter-Grizzell Cemetery in Cannon County. Military graveside rites will be administered by VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at High’s.

Dowelltown resident Melanie Lee Cantrell, 30, died Feb. 7 at Stones River Hospital.
A homemaker and a member of the Baptist Church, she is survived by sons, Jathon Cantrell of McMinnville and Kabe Cantrell of Dowelltown; daughters, Cayden and Tavia Cantrell, both of Dowelltown; father, Dorris Cantrell of McMinnville; mother, Linda Gale Chapman of Dowelltown; brothers, Steve Gregory of Alexandria and Jason Chapman of Dowelltown; sisters, Paula and Sharon Cantrell, both of McMinnville, Cathy Kilgore and Chastity Chapman, both of Dowelltown; several nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation was held Monday at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home of Smithville. There will be no funeral.

Altamont resident and Grundy County native Nola Bea Tate Page, 75, died Feb. 7 at NHC Healthcare.
A member of Grace Baptist Church at Beersheba Springs, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Ollie Belle Tate; and was also preceded in death by her husband, John Thomas Page.
She is survived by son, Wendell Page of Altamont; sisters, Marie Fults of McMinnville, Frances and Wilda Tate, both of Altamont; nephews and spouses, Donnie and Diana Fults of McMinnville, Gerald and Lois Fults of Plainville, Ga.; several great-nieces and nephews.
Services were held Monday at Layne Funeral Home in Altamont with Ed Dudley officiating. Burial followed at Altamont City Cemetery.

Clara Elizabeth McGregor Collier, 82
McMinnville resident and Warren County native Clara Elizabeth McGregor Collier, 82, died Feb. 6 at NHC Healthcare after a one-and-a-half-year illness.
A retired school teacher with the Warren County School System and a member of Central Church of Christ, she was the daughter of George William and Mary Ida Curtis McGregor; and was preceded in death by sister, Dorothy McGregor.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Collier; sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Bonnie Collier, Miles and Linda Collier, all of McMinnville; grandchildren, Michael, Ginger, Joseph, Sarah and William Collier; and brother, James McGregor of McMinnville.
Services were held Sunday at High’s Chapel with Newton Gribble officiating. Burial followed at New Union Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Magness Library.

James W. Hall, 71
McMinnville resident and Grundy County native James W. Hall, 71, died unexpectedly Feb. 8 at River Park Hospital.
A minister with Palmer Church of Christ and a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War, he was the son of William Millard and Ethel Mae Henley Hall.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Hall; daughter and son-in-law, Melinda Carol and Danny Grayson of Whitwell; son and daughter-in-law, James Timothy and Kristal Hall of McMinnville; grandchildren, Seger and B.J. Grayson, Henry and Kelsey Hall; sister, Sally Smith of Kimball; brothers, Bobby Dean Hall of Rossville, Ga., and Allen Wayne Hall of Marietta, Ga.; several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Tuesday at Jericho Church of Christ with Ray Winton officiating. Burial followed at Jericho Cemetery.

Mary Katherine (Kat) Tallent, 53
McMinnville resident and Anderson County native Mary Katherine (Kat) Tallent, 53, died Feb. 7 at St. Thomas Hospital after a four-day illness.
A factory worker for Findlay Industries and a member of Quebeck Baptist Church, she was the daughter of Pearl Hutchings of McMinnville and the late Odie B. Tallent; and was preceded in death by daughter, Kimberly Sue Jones; and sister, Brenda Carol Tallent.
She is survived by former husband, Carl Bates of McMinnville; sisters, Shirley Layman, Peggy McCormick, Sheila Rogers, Charlice Faye Burton and Sandy Luna, all of McMinnville, and Karen A. Bogard of Kingsport; brothers, Odie Tallent of Smithville and Kirk Hutchings of McMinnville; stepbrothers, Don, Randy, and Terry Hutchings all of McMinnville and Joe Hutchings of Wichita, Ks.; stepsisters, Virginia Brady of McMinnville, Ruth Pinegar of Manchester, Deyon Deasy and Bobby Jean Yourzy, all of Kansas; several nieces and nephews.

Mildred J. Dotson, 78
Peoria, Ill., resident formerly of McMinnville Mildred J. Dotson, 78, died Feb. 6 at Rosewood Care Center in Peoria.
A Cowan native and a homemaker, she was a member of the Church of Andrew the Apostle in Peoria, a former member of St. Matthew’s Episcopalian Church of McMinnville, and a member of the Independent Order of Foresters in Peoria.
The daughter of the late Daniel Isaiah King and Eliza Jane Bryant, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus Kirby Dotson in 1999; two brothers and three sisters.
She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Linda K. and Roger Wells of Metamora, Ill.; sons and daughter-in-law, Ken L. and Sharon Dotson of Peoria, Ill, and Ronald K. Dotson of Dallas, Texas; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren.
Services were held Tuesday at the Church of St. Andrew the Apostle in Peoria with the Very Rev. Michael McKinnon officiating. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday at Sewanee Eastern Star Cemetery in Sewanee with Rev. Cameron Hess officiating. There will be no local visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to her church.

Irving College native Katherine Ware Bice, 85, died Feb. 9.
The daughter of the late Isham and Ethel Muncey Ware, she was the 10th of 13 brothers and sisters. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Bice of Muncey, Ind.; and 11 of her siblings.
She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Morris Womack of McMinnville; son and daughter-in-law, William A. and Kathy Bice of Portland, Ore.; brother and sister-in-law, Isham W. and Mary Ellen Ware of Irving College; eight grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Manchester resident and Warren County native Viola Lee Ramsey, 92, died Feb. 8 at Manchester Medical Center.
The owner of Vi’s Lounge and a member of the Church of Christ, she was the daughter of the late John W. and Zora Mae Dodd McMahan Sr.; and was preceded in death by brothers, Walter McMahan and Lloyd McMahan; and sisters, Connie Prater and Myrtle Bailey.
She is survived by her husband, John B. Ramsey Jr. of Manchester; brother, Granville McMahan of Morrison; and sisters, Laura McAfee, Clara McAfee and Mildred Prater, all of Morrison, Johnnie Cooper and Pauline Light, both of Muncie, Ind.
Services were held Tuesday at Manchester Funeral Home with Vernon Joines officiating. Burial followed at Shady Grove Cemetery.
