Lady Broncos blasted 13-1

Boyd’s soccer team hit the road Thursday, vying for its second win in a row by going up against Livingston Academy.

Livingston took advantage of its strength, however, and handed the younger Boyd team a 13-1 district loss.

It didn’t take long for the Lady Wildcats to strike. Livingston scored its first goal before 10 seconds had clicked off the clock. The smaller and less-experienced Lady Broncos struggled through the first half trying to defend their goal.

Livingston played most of the first half on offense, taking 12 shots and adding five more goals before the halftime break to take a 6-0 lead. The Lady Broncos had few chances on offense in the first half with only four shots at goal, going in at the half down 6-0.

Boyd tried to regroup at the start of the second half and had several opportunities to score, finally finding paydirt when Mary Reynolds fired a shot 10 minutes into the second half to put the Lady Broncos on the board.

Things went downhill from there for Boyd, however, as the Lady Wildcats ran the field scoring seven more goals before the end of the game to take the win.

Emily Newby had 20 saves on the day for Boyd and the Lady Broncos had 10 shots at goal.

“Livingston has a really good team this year, and the team is built around six or seven senior players,” said Boyd coach Teresa Sutton. “Our lack of experience showed today but we never gave up and held up good considering the heat.

“There are going to be games like this, and I told the girls we have to take advantage of playing good teams and learn from not only our mistakes but from their good play.”

The Lady Broncos are set to travel to Mt. Juliet Christian Tuesday.
