Donnie Ray Martin, 45
McMinnville resident and Warren County native Donnie Ray Martin, 45, died suddenly Feb. 25 at River Park Hospital.

A member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, he was preceded in death by his father, Mort B. Martin; brother, Ricky Martin; and sister Joanne Nelson.

He is survived by his mother, Willie Lucille Martin of McMinnville; brothers, Bernis, Ernest, Leonard, Eddie, Tony, Marcus and Billy Martin, all of McMinnville; and sisters, Patsy Jones, Dorothy Layne, Sherry Duggin and Peggy Martin, all of McMinnville.

Services were held yesterday at High’s Chapel with Rick Basham and Joe David Womack officiating. Burial followed at Crain Hill Cemetery in Van Buren County.

Myrl Thurman Smith, 73
Brookside community resident and Warren County native Myrl Thurman Smith, 73, died Feb. 25 at Baptist DeKalb Hospital after an extended illness.

A prominent timberman who was the former owner and operator of Smith & Sons Logging Company and DeKalb County Logging Company, a former member of the Viola Red Sox semi-professional baseball team and a member of the Church of Christ, he was the son of the late Otto and Collie Walker Smith; and was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Nell Haney Smith; brothers, John, James, Carl and Paul Smith; granddaughter, Lori Jean Smith; great-granddaughter, Leslie Nushea Wanamaker; and daughter-in-law, Eula Darlene Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille Smith of McMinnville; daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Doug Mounts of Castalian Springs, Martha and Verible Wanamaker of McMinnville, Anna and Philip Burton, Sr. of McMinnville; sons, Jerry D. Smith and Myrl Thomas Smith, both of McMinnville; stepsons and their spouses, Danny and Cathy Parker and Lee and Janie Parker, all of Sparta; sister and brother-in-law, Gladys and Joe Clendenon of McMinnville; brother and sister-in-law, Wallace and Dean Smith of Marietta, Ga.; grandchildren, Lisa King, Speigal Wanamaker, Tara Clark, Jonathan Smith, Hope Burton, Derrick Smith, Boone Smith and Phillip Burton, Jr.; five great-grandchildren; and nine step-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. today at Grange Hall Cemetery with Clayton Gribble officiating. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today at McMinnville Funeral Home.

Richard Victor Ferrell, 85
McMinnville resident and Ethel, Okla., native Richard Victor Ferrell, 85, died Feb. 26 at River Park Hospital after an extended illness.

A shipping and receiving supervisor with Ford Motor Company and a member of the Church of God of Prophecy, he was the son of the late George and Lily Hagerman Ferrell; and was preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce Trent Ferrell in 1982; brothers, Robert, Allen, Mike and Junior Ferrell; sisters, Nellie Purdue and Dorothy Harrison; granddaughter, Angie Ferrell; step-granddaughter, Cynthia Wakins and step-grandson, Richie Bishop.

He is survived by his wife, Geneva Ferrell; daughters and sons-in-law, Nina Gonzales of Texas, Wilma and Fred Johnson of Monterey and Debbie and Gary Cherry of McMinnville; son and daughter-in-law, George and Christine Ferrell of Florida; step-son, Ervin Miller of Shelbyville; step-daughters, Pat Cagle of McMinnville, Betty Keck of South Dakota, Judy Bishop of Bone Cave and Jimmie Smith of Morrison; 13 grandchildren; 15 step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 23 step-great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow at High Chapel with Vernon Caruthers officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory. Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service tomorrow.

Estill B. “Doc” Lawson, 77
Painesville, Ohio resident and Warren County native Estill B. “Doc” Lawson, 77, died Feb. 26 at his residence.

A retired fireman at LTV Steel, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and winner of three bronze stars in the European Theatre and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the American Legion, he was preceded in death by his wife, Omega Lawson in 1999; son, Ernest Lawson in 2002; and brothers, Sanford, Fred, Vernard and Charles Lawson.

He is survived by his sons, Edward, Robert and Steve Lawson, all of Painesville, and Richard Rogers of Texas; daughters, Linda Truman of Rome, Ohio, Judy Immonen of Martinez, Ga., and Nancy Anderson and Norma Hobbs, both of Painesville; brothers, Vester Lawson of Painesville, Tom Lawson of Grand River, Ohio and Paul Lawson of Perry, Ohio; 28 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Spear-Mulqueeny Funeral Home in Painesville.

Clio Mable Moore, 80
Sparta resident and Jackson County native Clio Mable Moore, 80, died Feb. 24 at the Bethesda Health Care Center in Sparta.

A homemaker, she was the daughter of the late Marion Thomas and Josie Whiteaker Welch; and was preceded in death by her son, Charlie Eugene Moore, sisters, Gladys Lenore Wilson and Joyce Welch; an infant brother, and brother Marion Thomas Welch, Jr.

She is survived by her husband, Charlie Moore of Sparta; children, Roger Dale Moore of Sparta, Joyce Ruth Adcock of Sparta, Harold David Moore of McMinnville, Mary Frances Nash of Sparta and Cynthia Ann McBride of Sparta; 14 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren.

Services were held yesterday at Thurman Funeral Home Chapel in Sparta with Harold Robinson and Danny Lane officiating. Burial followed at Smith Chapel in Putnam County.

Dorothy Malone Perry, 79
McMinnville resident and Warren County native Dorothy Malone Perry, 79, died Feb. 13 at her home after an extended illness.

A homemaker and a member of Westwood Church of Christ, she was the daughter of Brack and Lula Byars Malone; and was preceded in death by her husband, Merlin H. Perry in 1975.

She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Andrea and Paul Mitchell, Jane and Bobby Cantrell, all of McMinnville; Jacqueline and Jimmy Spain of Madison, Ala.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; sisters, Elizabeth Cantrell of McMinnville; and brother, Beryl Malone of Troy, Mich.

Services were held Tuesday at High’s Chapel with Mike Steakley and Kirk Brothers officiating. Burial followed at Mt. View Cemetery.
