Owens takes baseball team’s top honors

The Warren County High School baseball team held its annual awards presentation and end-of-season picnic last weekend, with senior team captain Daniel Owens bringing home several honors.

Owens, the Pioneers’ catcher, was named both the team’s Best Offensive and Best Defensive Player, and was also presented with the J.K. Stanley Award, a most valuable player award voted on by his teammates.

During his senior campaign, which also netted all-district and all-region honors, Owens turned in a .366 batting average — tops among the Pioneer starters. He also had an on-base percentage of .413 and a fielding percentage of .970. Owens drove in 15 runs for the Pioneers, and batted .360 with runners in scoring position, the second best average among everyday players.

Among other honors handed out by the team, Zach Pelham won the Hilda Lowry Student-Athlete Award, and Landon Boren was named the team’s Pitcher of the Year. Owens, Ryan Vincion, Jake Mitchell, Derek Kennamer and Glenn Rogers were also recognized for being named to the all-district team.
