FCE Club: Midway

Betty Grissom and Wilma Davenport served as hostesses for the Midway FCE meeting held at the CIC Center.

President Grissom conducted the meeting, welcoming guest Hilda Lytle. Jean Cantrell led the devotional by reading “A Penny for Mama’s Dreams” and leading the FCE prayer. Grissom let the group in the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag and Linda Schlimmer read an amusing poem, “I Want to Be a Bear.”

Agent Hilda Lytle’s program was “Tennessee Shapes Up” and “More Color, More Health.” She stressed ways we can get more color and newer fruits and vegetables in our diets. Bernice Champagne and Sharon Bennett gave reading reports.

Roll call was answered with “A favorite sport is. . . , with 11 being present. Minutes were read by Irene Fuston from the April meeting and treasurer Sharon Bennett gave the financial report.

At the A&R Day, Midway received first place on scrapbook and Master Club certificate. Those attending were Jean Cantrell, Wanda Drake, Betty Grissom, Linda Schlimmer, Irene Fuston, Dora Cooper, Elva Dean Bell and Charlotte Spicer.

International Day was a success and had a good attendance, with Italy was the chosen country. Those attending were Linda Schlimmer, Irene Fuston, Jean Cantrell and Wanda Drake. Baked goods are needed for the FCE Council sale at Kroger May 27-28. The club received two tickets for the 4-H banquet. Wanda Drake expressed thanks for her April birthday gifts.

Spring floral decorations graced the tables and a cold plate luncheon was served. Bernice Champagne observed her birthday during the luncheon. The next meeting will be June 1 at 10 a.m. at the Midway CIC Center.
