‘Dogs top Tigers to remain perfect

Thursday night at Irving College the Eastside Bulldogs put their undefeated season on the line against the Tigers in seventh- and eighth-grade action. Eastside had too much speed for the Tigers as the Bulldogs rolled past the Irving College 53-33.

Jason Carlson and Gage Myers got Eastside off and running with back-to-back baskets. Justin Woodlee put the Tigers on the board at the 4:35 mark. Eastside then ran off eight points with baskets from Kurt Kilgore, Jesse Carlson and Myers who connected on a 3-pointer. Sam Shay hit a pair of baskets for the Tigers and Woodlee connected for a basket. Myers added another 3-pointer and two more buckets and Jason Carlson hit a bucket to give the Bulldogs a 21-11 lead by the end of the first half.

In the second, the Bulldogs open up their lead as Myers hit a 3-pointer, Kilgore added a pair of baskets and buckets from Luke Hillis and Josh Tees helped Eastside to a 15 point quarter. Irving College put seven points on the board. Shay had the Tigers only basket from the floor with the rest of their points coming from the free throw line. By the end of the first half Eastside held a 36-18 advantage.

Eastside came out in the third quarter and put four quick points on the board with baskets from Jason Carlson and Myers. The Tigers bounced back with back-to-back buckets from Kade Kelly and Woodlee. The Tigers managed just five points, while Eastside connected for 13 points. Alec Ferguson and Dakota Myers closed out the scoring for the Bulldogs as Eastside took a 49-23 lead.

In the final period the Bulldogs hit just two baskets, one coming from Alec Ferguson and Mitchell Morton. Irving College tired to make a run as Shay hit for six points and Woodlee added a pair of baskets, but it wasn’t enough as Eastside remains undefeated.

For the Bulldogs, Myers hit for 22 points. Jason Carlson had eight, Kilgore hit for six, Ferguson had four, Dakota Myers had three, Jesse Carlson, Hillis, Tees, August Palombo and Morton added two points each.

Shay led the Tigers with 15 points. Woodlee had 12, Krystoffer Williams added four and Kelly had two points.
