Miller gets 15 days for drug charges-Tries to fill dead grandmother’s prescription
A man who tried to obtain his grandmother’s prescription medication after she died will serve 15 days and then be allowed to participate in the drug court program.
The defendant, Jesse Eugene Miller, 23, was ordered last week by Circuit Court Judge Bart Stanley to serve 15 days of a three-year sentence and pay $1,000 plus court costs for fraudulently obtaining drugs. As part of his plea, Miller will be required to complete the court’s comprehensive drug court program which includes attending court, unannounced home visits and drug rehabilitation classes. The program usually lasts about a year and has proved to be very effective in preventing recidivism.
Miller was arrested this past summer after he entered Super D and told the pharmacist he was there to pick up his grandmother’s prescription. The prescription was for 30 Xanax, a relaxant which can be addictive and is used to treat anxiety and panic disorders.
In addition to asking to have the prescription for his grandmother filled, Miller reportedly told the pharmacy clerk he had a note from his grandmother authorizing him to pick up her medicine.
However, Miller’s demeanor while waiting for the drugs made the clerk suspicious leading to a check of his story. It was soon discovered Miller’s grandmother had died three days earlier, prompting police to be called and charge him with fraudulently trying to get his grandmother’s prescription filled.
