Boyd falls despite Myers’ 20 points
Saturday night at Boyd Christian the Broncos took on Webb High School in a non-district matchup. Even with a 20-point performance by Casey Myers the Broncos couldn’t stop the Feet, as Webb defeated Boyd 72-49. The Broncos dropped to 4-11 on the season.
Tyler Hillis netted the first two baskets for the Broncos. Webb’s Hunter Foutch connected on back-to-back buckets and with 3:23 left in the period the Feet held a 7-4 lead. Myers drove the lane and was fouled, sending him to the line where he made two-of two. But that would be all the Broncos would get, as Webb closed out the period with five more points to take a 12-6 lead.
The Broncos offense was slow to react in the second period. Webb hit for nine points during the first minute of the period. Lance Chandler connected and Myers converted a 3-point play, but the Feet hit back-to-back 3-pointers. Back-to-back steals converted into baskets by Austin Young and Myers gave Boyd a spark, but the Feet answered with seven points including a 3-pointer from Foutch. Hillis, Myers and Mitchell Young hit for two points each before the period ended, but Webb tacked on two late baskets to take a 36-21 lead at the break.
Webb scored the first two points in the third period. Back-to-back turnovers by the Feet gave the Broncos a nine point run as Boyd pulled within eight with 5:35 left in the period. Webb added six more points to the board before the quarter ended. The Broncos got baskets from Lucas Majors, Mitchell Young, Dylan Keith and Myers but by the end of the period, Boyd still trailed 46-38.
Webb put a damper on Boyd’s run in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter. The Feet ran off nine straight points to open in the period. The Broncos got a basket from Cole Stubblefield, and after Webb added three more points to the board, the Broncos ran off six unanswered points. But a big run by the Feet at the 4:08 mark put 12 unanswered points on the board. Boyd added one more point to the board as Webb walked away with the victory.
For the Broncos, Myers netted 20, Hillis had 10, Mitchell Young, Stubblefield and Majors had four points each. Austin Young, Keith and Chandler added two points each and Lucas Hartman had one point.
Foutch led the Feet with 21 points. Jordan Burchett added 12, Logan Burchett and Luke Baum had 10 points apiece. Jalen Mosley hit for eight, Will Murphy had seven and William Arquitt added two points.
The Broncos were scheduled to take on Van Buren County on the road on Tuesday.
