Early intensity isn’t enough-Lady Pioneers handed league loss by Lebanon
After a tight first quarter, Friday night’s District 7-AAA matchup between the Lady Pioneers and their guests from Lebanon dwindled into another disappointing loss.
Down by just a bucket after an early run, Warren County’s girls quickly tied the score with a basket in the second, but came up empty for over three minutes, allowing Lebanon to extend a lead on the way to an eventual 63-37 rout.
The Blue Devilettes, who entered the contest ranked fourth in the district standings, held WCHS without a field goal over the entire third quarter, padding their advantage to 54-27 before coasting to the victory.
Warren County hit just four of its 18 field-goal attempts in the second half, and finished the game with a shooting clip of just 27 percent (14-of-52), including three of 19 3-point attempts.
As in their previous meeting back in December, Lebanon’s Elie sisters helped lead their club to victory, with Icelyn Elie posting 11 points in each half for a game-high 22 and sister London coming in off the bench to score 13. Guard Ebony Marshall added 14 points, including seven in the third quarter as the Devilettes turned a 33-23 halftime lead into a 27-point advantage.
Warren County, which dropped to 7-12 on the season and 2-6 in district play, was led by Brooke Bowman’s 13 points and nine from Brittany Frazier, while senior Jasmine Hall contributed eight ‘ all of which came in the first quarter of play, which ended with Lebanon on top by a narrow 15-13 margin.
The Lady Pioneers visit Riverdale on Tuesday, travel to Siegel Friday and return home Saturday to make up their thrice-rescheduled game with White County.
