Cubs still undefeated in boys? junior league
The Exchange Furniture Cubs kept their spotless record in the city Junior League intact last Thursday, with a 5-1 victory over the Cohutta Yankees.
Hunter Boulding and Jonathan Reed combined on the hill for the Cubs, who improved to 5-0. Boulding worked two innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on one hit and four walks while recording four strikeouts. Reed came on in the third, picking up the win while balancing six walks against eight K?s.
At the plate, Logan Underhill had a pair of doubles and finished 2-for-3 in the winning effort, while Hayden Holder and Tyrus Keel also had hits.
Lee Carden took the loss for the Yankees, pitching four innings and fanning nine batters, and also had his team?s only hit.
In Thursday?s other game, The Sony Salon Marlins out-slugged the Superior Walls Cardinals on their way to a9-6 win.
Chase Lefebvre got the victory on the hill, fanning nine batters and giving up nine hits and four walks through five innings of work. The loss went to Lake Hillis, who walked 10 and struck out six while giving up eight hits.
The Marlins took an early 2-0 lead, and were up 4-1 before scoring five runs in the fifth. Those insurance runs proved to be pivotal, as the Cards countered with five of their own in the bottom of the frame.
At the dish for the Marlins, Lefebvre, Tyler Patterson and Alex Rowland had two hits each, while Elijah Holder and Steven Webber added singles.
The Cardinals got two hits from Hillis, Clay Myers and Logan Wanamaker. Briar Ward, Park Hilliard and Samuel Arnold added a base knock apiece.
