Another new store graces Main Street

Sandy Elwood is no stranger to Main Street. About two years ago she had a booth at The Collection before deciding to leave for greener pastures that took her to the remodeled shopping center above the bowling alley.

“When I left Main Street, I never thought I’d be back because it was dead down here,” said Sandy. “But now look what they’ve done. There are a lot of possibilities downtown and when it’s completely finished it will become the place people want to go.”

Sandy’s Gifts on Main will officially open this Wednesday in the spot formerly occupied by the Amesbury Cafe. Sandy has been letting customers wander in while she’s been getting the store ready and she says the response has been great.

“For not officially being open, I’ve actually had a pretty good week,” said Sandy. “I’ve been getting a lot of walk-by traffic and I didn’t get that at my old store.”

Sandy promotes her gift shop as having “something for everybody” and I can say she does a good job trying. For Valentine’s Day, she has chocolate roses that look nice but taste even better. She says a really hot seller has been tiny clocks mounted on different items like a golf ball, doctor’s bag and sewing machine.

After three locations in just over two years, Sandy says Main Street is her final destination.

“There won’t be any more moves for me,” said Sandy. “I’ll either make it or break it here.”
