Magness holds Library Open House
At 10 a.m. there will be a Red Carpet Grand Opening of the newly renovated Children’s Department downstairs where there will be music and refreshments. Also downstairs will be, in a separate room, a huge Winter Book Sale.
The day will also include a special preview of the Adopt-A-Book books. All the people who donated to this project are especially invited and encouraged to come to this event.
In the evening a traveling exhibit from Lincoln Memorial University will open at 6:30 p.m. with a reception for Dr. Steve Wilson, director of the Abraham Lincoln Library at the university. He will speak about the exhibit following the reception. The exhibit is titled, “The Pinnacle: Civil War Action in the Cumberland Gap.”
The exhibit features graphics, historical accounts and photos detailing the activities of both Union and Confederate forces who met briefly four separate times in the rugged, unforgiving wilderness that was the Cumberland Gap.
Wilson received his master’s degree in historic preservation from the University of Tennessee. He oversees all exhibits for the Lincoln Museum and speaks regularly on Lincoln’s life and the Civil War era.
