Centertown’s seventh- and eighth-grade basketball squads swept the seventh-graders from Warren County Middle Monday night, with the Lady Warriors winning 33-21 while the Warriors nabbed a 47-42 victory.

In the boys’ game, Tyler Keaton burned the Pioneers for 20 points, including six in the first quarter as the homestanding Warriors jumped out to a 15-11 lead.

WCMS held its own, however, scoring eight points to the Warriors’ 10 to go into halftime trailing by six at 25-19.

Momentum stayed on the Warriors’ end of the court in the third, as they posted 18 points — including 10 from Keaton. But the Pioneers tried to rally back in the fourth, scoring 17 points, including a pair of Brett Patterson 3-pointers. Centertown managed just four points in the game’s final period, but it was enough to secure the win for the Warriors.

In addition to Keaton’s 20, the Warriors got nine points from Cameron Bond and seven from Ethan Turner, including two first-half 3-pointers.

Michael Brewer, Joshua Blair, Jacob Lee, Justin Medley and Matt Wilson added two points each, while Bradley Steg rounded out the winning effort with a free throw.

Patterson’s 18 led WCMS, while he also came away with five steals. Mark Harvey just missed a double-double, finishing with nine points and 11 rebounds, and Ben Davis posted eight points. Patrick Harvey added three, while Lake Kirby and Slayden Rogers tossed in a bucket each.

• The Lady Warriors and Lady Pioneers opened the double-header, which was part of a four-game night at Centertown featuring fifth- and sixth-grade as well as seventh- and eighth-grade action.

Centertown’s girls got off to a strong start, putting eight points on their side of the ledger while holding the Lady Pioneers scoreless for the first quarter.

The Lady Warriors used their press-break offense to put up 11 more points by halftime, with Heather Roach scoring seven to help her team take a 19-7 lead into the break.

Both teams missed several shots in the game’s third quarter, and heading into the game’s final stanza the margin remained at a dozen points, with Centertown leading 25-13.

WCMS tried to battle its way back into the game with aggressive defense, but Centertown kept its lead by matching the Lady Pioneers basket for basket.

Katie Roller scored 14 points to lead the way for the Lady Warriors, while Roach had 11 of her 13-point total in the first half. Katie Mayfield, Cassie Hutchins and Jessica Elkins scored two each.

WCMS was led by Lea Montgomery’s nine points, while Kassidy Kominos and Kayla Maynard added a 3-pointer each. Kyndl Black, Lauren Lytle and Chancerie Martin had two each.
