Booklet to aid WCHS students facing big decisions: Information on colleges, scholarships included

A student’s senior year of high school is full of big decisions: if and where to go to college or technical school, how to apply to such schools and how to pay for them, to name just a few.

To help seniors and their parents make decisions that are best for them, Warren County High School has been distributing senior guides to students, guides which contain all the information they need to know to graduate high school and begin the next phase of their lives.

Included in the 15-page booklet are graduation requirements, ACT and other testing information, how to choose a post-secondary school, and a list of many Tennessee colleges and technical school and all of their application and scholarship deadlines, as well as the types of scholarships they offer.

The booklet also includes all pertinent information on applying for federal financial aid and the Tennessee Education Lottery Scholarship Program. A list of scholarships offered by local organizations is also included.

“Everything you need to know about graduating high school and getting started to college is in here,” high school senior guidance counselor Dr. Keri McGiboney told a group of seniors Tuesday. “This will save you and your parents a lot of time and trouble if you use it as a reference.”

As an added convenience, McGiboney noted the entire booklet will soon be available on the school’s Web site, located at www.warrencountyhighschool.com/Guidance/Guidance.htm. The site includes an abundance of other information useful to seniors and their parents, including the school’s weekly junior/senior newsletter and up-to-date scholarship information.

To further help seniors and their parents prepare, the school will hold a financial aid workshop in the school’s auditorium at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 30. The school’s annual College Night will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 26 at McMinnville Civic Center.
