Volleyball drops District 7 match versus Cookeville
|
In the first two games the Lady Pioneers fell behind early after the Lady Cavaliers pounded the ball on the outside. Cookeville’s serving gave Warren County problems in the first game, but the Lady Pioneers managed to fight back with solid net play by Karen Marlowe and McKenna Rhea. Warren County pulled within five points, but Cookeville secured the first game.
In the second game the Lady Pioneers’ back court did a much better job of passing, but Cookeville built an early lead which was too much for Warren County to overcome.
The Lady Pioneers put pressure on the Lady Cavaliers in the third game as Alysa Lankford and Destini Reedy came up with several big blocks in the middle to keep the game close.
Mary Kate Fisher and Brittany Frazier were able to get the job done at setter as Lankford, Rhea, Fisher and Marlowe picked up several kills each. Cookeville’s play continued to be steady and managed to take the third game by four points.
“We’re still adjusting to the rotation change, but Reedy has stepped in and is progressing nicely,” said coach Franklin Fisher. “Our passing was much better in the last two games, but we are still working too hard to run our offense.
“Our backcourt play was much better, which made things easier on our setters to run the offense. We still have many things to improve on and the girls continue to work hard each week.”
