Herndon marks 90th birthday

H.L. Herndon recently celebrated his 90th birthday. He was born Aug. 22, 1914 at the old Herndon homeplace in Centertown.

To mark the occasion, Herndon and his wife, Mildred, enjoyed an outing and meal at Cracker Barrel in Manchester. Also during that week, friends arrived from Chattanooga to treat the couple for dinner at Shoney’s Restaurant.

Herndon left Warren County in 1927 to seek employment in East Tennessee. He was employed for 37 years with Rockwell International in Chattanooga as a sheet metal worker. After retiring from Rockwell he remained in that city, working for Security Federal before returning to reside in McMinnville.

He has had varied interests and worked with his nephew for seven years as they restored a 1935 Chevrolet.
