Rhodes leads Beta Sigma Phi chapter

Beta Sigma Phi Sorority is an international organization for women that has incorporated service, cultural and social objectives. The local chapter, Preceptor Alpha Pi, has members from McMinnville, Manchester, Tullahoma and Tracy City.

New officers recently inducted in a ceremony are: Linda Rhodes, president; Karen Wainright, vice president; Marilyn Peters and Renate Stone, recording secretaries; Barbara Brock, corresponding secretary; Mary Ann Lawhorn and Barbara Pittman, treasurers.

The group finalized their cultural and social calendar for the year at a recent board meeting at the home of Linda Rhodes. They recently enjoyed an overnight dinner/theater event in Crossville for a production of “Beauty and the Beast.” A visit to the Norman Rockwell exhibit in Nashville is scheduled for August and September’s activity will be a day spent at Third Coast Clay for ceramics fun. There will be an outing at one of the area state parks in October, as well as a tea for new members.

Attending the annual Manchester First Baptist Church Christmas Concert is planned for December with a covered dish dinner and gift exchange. A chili supper and games party are on tap for January and for February there is a Valentine dance in Murfreesboro with other chapters of the Murfreesboro City Council. Plans to attend a theater production of “Hello Dolly” in Tullahoma are set for April. There will also be a dinner to celebrate Founder’s Day on April 3. A mother/ daughter luncheon at an area historical home and a secret sister revealing is set for May.

A service project of the chapter is the Alzheimer Association. This year they will again participate in Alzheimer’s Walk scheduled for Sept. 25 in Tullahoma. Other projects are monthly support of Haven of Hope and Multi-County Cancer Support Group.
