March 6: Cirque du Soleil choreographer to teach workshop
The class, sponsored by Green Room Projects, will feature the techniques of Phillipe Gaullier’s “Le Jeu” method, an organic, play-based approach to physical movement that emphasizes the joy of acting and creating a character.
Cost for the workshop is $25 per person and people of all ages and experience are welcome.
Morris, an actor, dancer and All-American athlete, has studied the movement techniques of Gaullier and other masters in London, Paris, India and Bali. He is a member of the Theatre de la Jeune Lune in Minneapolis and R37: An Acrobatic Shakespeare Company, and has toured with Diavolo Dance Theatre and The Fabulous Monsters. As a teacher, Morris has led movement workshops in New York, Minneapolis and Los Angeles, and was a 2003 Tennessee Williams Fellow at the University of the South in Sewanee.
Morris will be in Nashville to coach rehearsals for Green Room Projects’ production of “Animal Farm.” Artistic director Mark Cabus says that Morris’ movement work is “truly amazing. The workshop will be invaluable for actors of any skill level. Jon’s enthusiasm is absolutely contagious. Actors are going to love him.”
