Road trip rough for Boyd: Lady Broncos take 53-32 loss
The Lady Broncos traveled over Monteagle mountain Thursday afternoon to take on the (12-6) Lady Pirates of South Pittsburg. The long trip over the mountain was an even longer ride home as the Lady Broncos fell 53-32 to the Lady Pirates.
A slow start on offense by Boyd gave South Pittsburg a huge advantage in the first period. The Lady Eagles quickly jumped out to an early lead and by the end of the period held a 16-4 lead.
In the second period Boyd settled down after getting baskets from Amanda Prater and Tabitha King. The Lady Broncos did a better job of ball control which resulted in eight points in the period. Defensively Boyd had a hard time stopping South Pittsburg’s inside game. Brandi Pickett and Haley Jordan banged the boards as the Lady Pirates went into the half with a 31-12 lead.
In the second half both teams got solid play out of their post players. In the third period the Lady Broncos worked the floor for 12 points, while the Lady Pirates hit for 11. But Boyd still trailed 42-24 going into the final period.
South Pittsburg never gave an inch in the fourth quarter. The Lady Broncos added eight points but the damage was already done as the Lady Pirates picked up the 21 point victory.
For the Lady Broncos, Prater led with 16 points , King hit for nine, Jennifer Laxton had five and Lydia Powell added two points. South Pittsburg was led in scoring by Pickett with 16 points and Jordan with 11 points.
