Football column was insulting
Apparently Will Stewart wished to elicit responses to his editorial regarding the dismantling of Warren County football.
I have it narrowed down to two possible reasons — either he was serious and sincere about his comments or he hoped to inspire and motivate the Pioneer football squad. Either way it was an insulting essay that will do even more harm to a wounded program.
God bless the players who continue to play. Football is a sport where art imitates life. When knocked down, a player has two options — get up, shake out the cobwebs, dust himself off and try again or quit. When losing a game he has the same options.
When going through a losing season, he faces the same options. When losing his job, going through a divorce, facing financial difficulties, losing a loved one, or any other of a myriad of difficulties we all are forced to deal with, he has the same options. Keep going or quit.
Pioneer football teams past, present, or future do not deserve to hear the negative comments and thoughts of Will Stewart who has clearly stated his opinion. They deserve our encouragement, exhortation, and applause for being real men, battling adversity and endeavoring to persevere.
Oh, and Warren County football has 43 wins since 1984 and never compare my hometown to Clarksville.
