Frazier leads Lady Warriors in championship rout of Tigers

Brittany Frazier stole the show — and the ball, repeatedly — Friday night as she and her Centertown teammates captured the championship in the county JV tournament with a 45-18 blowout of Irving College.

Frazier finished with 29 points, including 13 in the third quarter, when her team’s pressure defense forced numerous midcourt turnovers, several resulting in uncontested Frazier layups.

The Lady Warriors went ahead 6-1 early, and carried a 13-6 lead out of the first quarter with Frazier netting 11 of their first-period points. The second period saw Centertown go to an inside-outside attack, where Rebekah Tinsley took control in the paint. Tinsley scored six of her points in the quarter, with her final score coming on a third putback attempt and giving the Lady Warriors a 24-11 halftime lead.

The third quarter was all Centertown, with the Lady Tigers’ only point coming on a Tanisha Butzback free throw at the 3:31 mark. Both teams slowed their offensive production in the fourth quarter, but Centertown’s Kayla Medley tossed in a long 3-pointer with 26 seconds to play to put the exclamation point on the Lady Warriors’ championship run.

In addition to Frazier’s 29, the Lady Warriors got 10 points from Tinsley, four from Keaton and two from Megan Bain.

Irving College was led by Butzback’s eight points, while DaRae Wells had four. Kristin Simons and Abril Amparan scored two each, with Haley Wanamaker and Lashay Barkes adding one apiece.
