With such tight election races, there is no reason not to vote

It’s once again time for the Standard to echo a familiar refrain: Get out and vote.

Tomorrow is election day and there are two crucial races which remain too close to call.

The office of county executive appears to be a hotly contested battle between incumbent Carol Hamblen and Democratic challenger Kenneth Rogers. In fact, during a recent poll conducted by the Standard, both candidates received exactly the same number of votes to finish the poll dead even.

It will likely be almost that close by the time all the votes are counted tomorrow night. The first election between Rogers and Hamblen was decided by 20 votes. This time, the race could be even closer and independent candidate Bob Warren could sneak up and be a factor.

If the Standard’s poll is accurate, the race for Circuit Court Judge will also be a tight race between Bart Stanley and Robert Newman. Keith Smartt, Richard McGregor and Peg Stewart are also top-notch candidates, but they remain behind Newman and Stanley in the poll.

Who will win these races? It’s up to the people to get out and vote and determine our county’s leadership. With races this close, each vote will make a difference.

Have a voice in our democratic process while giving support to the candidate of your choice. The only way for our system to truly be “the voice of the people” is for the people to take the small amount of time required to vote.
