Babe Ruth tourney heating up: Union Planters, Sundrop win Monday night
In the night’s opening game, Union Planters built a quick lead with four runs in the first and three more in the second, and held off a late rally as Rotary plated four runs on four walks, two hit batsman, three errors and a hit in the fifth.
Brandon Boyd had two hits and scored a pair of runs for Union Planters, while Martin Scott and Andrew King also had hits. Scott scored a pair of runs.
Rotary, which only had one hit during the first four innings of play, got base hits from Ricky Curtis and J.R. Drake in the losing effort. Curtis, Drake, Jody Denney and Jonathan Roberts scored in Rotary’s fifth-inning rally.
Sundrop and Charter closed out Monday night’s action with a close ballgame, and Sundrop broke a 4-4 tie with a pair of runs in the fourth to seal the win.
Jake Dudley, Jacob Fann, Todd Dunn, Ben Dunn and Drew Green had a hit each for Sundrop, which moved on to face Union Planters in the losers’ bracket finals. Tyler Hubbard scored a pair of runs for the winning side.
For Charter Dillon Childers had a pair of hits, including a double, while Drew Gump, Brooks Palmer and Ryan Ramsey also had hits.
Tuesday night’s scheduled action had First National Bank taking on Central Oil in the winners’ bracket final, and the UP-Sundrop matchup to follow.
The tournament championship and awards presentations are scheduled for Thursday night.
