Nursing program taking applications

Aspiring nurses have until 4 p.m. Friday to apply for the Practical Nursing program at Tennessee Technology Center at McMinnville.

Students in the perennially popular program study basic nursing skills as well as the related subjects of body structure and function, conditions of illness, nutrition and medications. In addition to class learning, the clinical experience provides supervised nursing care of medical, surgical, obstetric, pediatric and geriatric patients.

After completing all classroom work, clinical experiences and other requirements, program graduates will be eligible to take the state nursing board examination to become licensed practical nurses.

The Technology Center is also accepting applications for its medical office assistant program. This program prepares students to work as clerical, clinical and technical assistants in doctors’ offices, hospitals or other medical settings. Every student in the program will complete an externship of on-the-job training in some form of clinical facility.

Both programs begin Oct. 1 and last 12 months.

The machine tool technology program has immediate openings and is also currently accepting applications. The purpose of this program is to give students experience in a wide variety of machine tools, including computerized numerical controlled machines. Instruction is also provided in blueprint reading, mathematics, precision measuring and basic metallurgy. This program lasts 18 months.

For more information on any of these programs call the Technology Center’s student services department at 473-5587.
