Man gets 90 days for shooting neighbor

A Bluff Springs man has been ordered to serve 90 days for shooting a neighbor in the face during an argument last December.

The defendant, Raul Landin Hernandez, entered the guilty plea Friday to the charge of aggravated assault. He was directed to serve 90 days of a three-year sentence, with the balance of his sentence to be served on probation. Hernandez, who hails from Mexico and is not a U.S. citizen, could also face deportation hearings if it is determined he entered the country illegally.

Speaking through an interpreter, Hernandez admitted he was guilty of shooting Geraldo Alan Guzman, 19, in the face with a .22 caliber handgun on the evening of Dec. 17, 2001. The shooting happened at Wayside Trailer Court where both men lived.

Hernandez told lawmen he shot Guzman after a domestic dispute concerning some of his clothes which were at Guzman’s trailer. The gun was found inside the victim’s home. Guzman has made a full recovery from his wound.
