The Foreigner returns to Playhouse

Together for the first time in Cumberland County Playhouse’s revival of The Foreigner, Terry Schwab and Jason Ross will star in the wild comedy which opens May 23 in Crossville. During its Crossville run extending through Sept. 15, the show also visits Knoxville’s Bijou Theater on Fridays June 28 through July 9.

Schwab leads the Playhouse cast for the third time as Charlie, the “foreigner” who supposedly speaks no English. When Ross, as lovable but dimwitted country boy Ellard, attempts to teach Charlie some English, the laughter is nonstop/ Also returning for her third edition of The Foreigner is Carol Irvin as Betty Meeks, whose South Georgia hunting lodge is the scene of the antics.

The play’s action and humor revolves around the encounters between some Southern good ole boys, and the strangers they don’t exactly welcome to their neck of the woods.

“Visitors and Tennesseans, Southerns and Yankees all howl at the fun in The Foreigner,” says CCP Producer Jim Crabtree. “We’re pleased to be bringing it back to Crossville, and then to Knoxville for the first time.”
