Yates honored for life’s achievements

Recognizing his lifetime achievements and noteworthy community and professional contributions, B. F. Yates, 82, a patient at Raintree Manor, was recently honored through the Tennessee Health Care Association’s (THCA) “Who’s Who in Tennessee Nursing Homes” program.

Yates, who has overcome disability and broadened his interests, will receive a Who’s Who certificate during Nursing Home Week, May 12-18, a national event celebrating the fundamental role nursing homes play in long-term care.

Yates was electrocuted while working for the Caney Fork Electric Cooperative and had to have his arms amputated below the elbows. However, he never let this slow him down. He continued to work to support his family, serving as both trustee and tax collector for Warren County. As tax collector, he was elected to serve two consecutive terms, which was a first in history. He enjoyed hunting and fishing prior to the accident and even added water skiing and gardening to his hobbies. Yates designed a device to feed himself and was proficient with many tools.

Since its inception in 1983, the “Who’s Who in Tennessee Nursing Homes” program has honored almost 800 outstanding individuals residing in THCA member facilities across the state. Through this special program, THCA annually recognizes individuals who made significant contributions to society and helped shape history through their insight and actions. The program is one of many activities planned by Tennessee nursing homes in celebration of Nursing Home Week.
