Mouse trapped: Man nabbed after eluding police twice
|
The suspect, Steven A. Alley, 26, is charged with manufacture of meth, evading arrest, reckless endangerment with a motor vehicles, vandalism and two counts of theft. He is being held under $325,000 bond awaiting his preliminary hearing.
His arrest comes after he gave lawmen the slip twice in one day last week. During the first chase, components of a meth lab were tossed out the window of the stolen vehicle Alley was driving. The woman passenger seen tossing out the lab, Heather Cantrell, 21, was captured separately from Alley this weekend and is charged with manufacture of meth and theft.
Alley was able to outrun lawmen during the afternoon chase by driving through fields where he tore down several fences leading to his vandalism charge. A large manhunt – which included aerial surveillance by the sheriff’s department helicopter – failed to find Alley.
Deputies once again pursued the suspect the same evening, this time chasing him in another stolen car on Highland Road. Alley reportedly abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, disappearing in the darkness.
His run came to an end Friday evening when lawmen, acting on a tip, found him at a motel in Coffee County. He was surprised and taken into custody without significant incident.
