Social Security: Our newsletter wins award

Social Security’s eNews won the 2001 Gold Award for an online subscription newsletter. The Newsletter on Newsletters presented the award at its annual competition.

The Gold Award is the oldest and most prestigious award given to newsletters. The organization has been covering newsletters since 1964. It is described by Time magazine as, “the bible of the newsletter industry.”

Newsletters were judged on their overall excellence -?superior editorial content with good design and typography -?as well as good use of photographs and graphics.

“Social Security’s eNews is an eminently readable newsletter,” said Paul Swift, editor and publisher of The Newsletter on Newsletters. “The only other federal agency ever to win the Newsletter Awards Competition was the Federal Election Commission in 1994.”

eNews will be reviewed in an upcoming issue of The Newsletter on Newsletters. To see what the experts are raving about, take a look at eNews yourself. Visit www.ssa.gov/enews/last.htm to see the latest issue. If you like it as much as the critics, you’ll want to subscribe – it’s free!

Social Security Commissioner Jo Anne B. Barnhart noted the award reflects the efforts the agency is making to communicate effectively with the American people.

“It’s vital Americans understand how Social Security works and why it is important to save and strengthen the program,” said Barnhart. “We are proud of this honor for our communications efforts, and we are going to continue to work hard to ensure we are reaching people with this important information.”
