Track teams fare well in busy first week
In girls action at Manchester, Courtney Martin had two individual runner-up finishes, taking second in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes.
Warren County also finished second in four different relay events, the 4×100, 4×800, 4×200 and 4×400.
Linsey Cornelius finished runner-up in the shot put, setting a school record at 29 feet, five inches. Lindsi Mayfield was second in the 400.
On the boys side, Warren County once again was a perfect 4-for-4 in relays, racking up four second-place times. Greg Wiley also got a runner-up finish in the 100.
• The Pioneers hosted Blackman and Smyrna to open their season Tuesday, taking first place on the girls’ side and second in boys’ action at a rain-shortened meet.
Katie Simpson finished second in both the shot put and the discus, setting what at the time was a school record in the shot at 29-3. Simpson’s record was short-lived, however, as it was eclipsed by Cornelius’ mark at Thursday’s meet in Manchester.
Carrie Gribble and Jessica Miller finished in first and second place, respectively, in the 3,200, while Mayfield won the 800. The 4×100 and 4×400 teams both finished in second place.
Ryan Kesey captured the only first-place finish among Warren County’s boys, winning the shot put. Mario Pezzimenti was second in the discus, Greg Wiley finished runner-up in the 100, and the Pioneers 4×800 relay team turned in a second-place time.
WCHS faces Coffee County and Shelbyville at Manchester March 26.
