Boyd blanked in home match

Boyd’s Becca Reynolds (2) goes up against a Webb School defender during Friday afternoon’s soccer match at Boyd. The Lady Broncos fell 2-0, after giving up a pair of second-half goals.
Boyd Christian School’s soccer team fell short in its home matchup with Webb School Friday, losing 2-0.

The Lady Broncos and Lady Feet battled through a scoreless first half, but Webb came up with a pair of goals after intermission, with Ali Jones and Mary Wells finding their way past the BCS defense.

“They were a bigger, more experienced team than us, but I was pleased with the defense again,” said Boyd coach Gina Cleek. “There were several blocked shots by the defensive line, and they stayed calm under a lot of pressure.

“Courtney Hard had a great game with 15 saves, and the defense played a good game with Emily Newby and Leah Walker being very instrumental in a shared sweeper position. But our mid-field had difficulty shutting down the drives upfield by Webb.”

While happy with her team’s defensive effort, Cleek noted the Lady Broncos still need to be more aggressive on offense.

Boyd had just six shots on goal, with Lyndsey King and Jessica Hagar taking two each.

Jennifer Laxton and Chris Surles had the Lady Broncos’ other attempts.

“It was a tough game,” Cleek said, “but I truly believe that all our team needs is for the defense to continue to do what they are doing and our offense to settle down, gain some confidence, and take more shots on goal.”

The Lady Broncos were scheduled to take on Mt. Juliet Christian at home Tuesday, but the game was canceled due to weather. It will be played on Saturday, at noon. Boyd will play host to York Thursday at 5 p.m.
