Robert Hershel (Bob) Herring, 66
A retired professor at MTSU, he was an author, novelist, sculptor, musician and life-long educator. He was also an avid explorer and mountain climber. He was featured in both the Mississippi and Tennessee Anthologies of Writers and was the winner of the Mississippi Poetry Contest. His book “Hub” won the Juvenile Fiction Award in 1985.
The son of Maurine Davidson Herring of Jackson, Ms., and the late Perry Floyd Herring, he is survived by his wife, Jean Burns Herring; son, Geoffrey Robert Burns Herring of Murfreesboro; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa Herring and Mark Mayo of Woodbury; brother and sister-in-law, John Harvard and Bonnie Herring of Albermarle, N.C.; brother-in-law, Hank Holmes; sister-in-law, Sandra and Steve West of Jackson, Ms.; grandchildren, Sidney Caitlyn Lee Mayo, Geoffrey Skyler Hutto Herring and Elyza Chandler Morgan Herring; three nieces and two nephews.
Visitation will be held next Saturday, June 5 at Jennings & Ayers Funeral Home in Murfreesboro. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 4205 Hillsboro Road, Suite 2000, Nashville, Tenn., 37215.
